…it’s time for a little story.
It had been a long journey back. As small as she was, her current state made her heavy. But not too heavy. The chain he draped around her ankle was just an embellishment for dramatic effect. It’s not as if she was likely to be going anywhere.
Tomorrow he would clean her up and dress her in the clothes that he’d made especially for her. She would be beautiful and she would keep him company here in his little house in the forest, where they wouldn’t be disturbed. He never had visitors apart from the special girls he brought here, his chosen few, his specially selected companions.
He settled back against his pillows and drifted into a dream about the exquisite mask of terror which had frozen on her delicate face before he gently closed her eyes and held her, rocked her in his arms and whispered sweet words of comfort to guide her into her final sleep.
or would you like some music instead?
After an exceptionally obscene dream (even by my standards) about Mike Patton the other night, I was inspired to listen to Faith No More a bit more. I’ve always had a bit of a thing for Mr Patton (something to do with the shape of his top lip and his general disregard for conventionality) and have loved FNM since forever ago, back in the days when my friends were drooling over Take Take and I had that picture of Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix on the motorbike (from My Own Private Idaho) in my locker at school alongside a picture of Sir Mike of Patton and one of Anthony Keidis.
I’m all grown up now, and while I still enjoy rock-porn sessions (my media centre is full of FNM, NIN, Filter and Jane’s Addiction vids, good for the drooling) I like to think that I have a more mature appreciation for music than I did when I wore a school uniform for something other than fucking in.
I’m not a music snob, I appreciate short explosive bullets of rock and metal (I still think Pretty Mate Machine beats the shit out of The Fragile) and I listen to anything that makes me happy, from Johnny Cash to Fear Factory. But I have a HUGE amount of admiration for people who shun genres and labels, who can turn their hand to any kind of music. And Mike Patton is one of those people. His vocal abilities are deeply impressive and while I’m sitting here listening to Album of the Year and King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime I am totally loving the fact that there’s such a range of ‘types’ of music across those two albums.
So yeah, go listen to Faith No More. Now.
and finally…
